Bevölkerungsschutz: Dobrindt plant digitale Infos zu Schutzräumen

Bundesinnenminister Alexander Dobrindt announced plans to create a digital database of all objects that can be used as protective spaces. He emphasized that the construction of new bunkers is not planned in Germany during a meeting with municipal representatives in Berlin. Together with the states, a structured database is being established to register protection spaces such as basement parking lots, tunnels, and other locations with protective functions, making them accessible to the public digitally.

The aim is for people to be able to find the nearest protective space "at the place where they are" in an emergency. The information is also planned to be available in the Nina warning app in the future. The timeline for completing this project was not specified by the minister. The Ministry of the Interior has been dealing with this issue since the beginning of the Russian aggression war against Ukraine in February 2022, especially since then.

Several German politicians have traveled to Finland and the Baltic states in recent years to inspect protective spaces there. The Bund will provide the necessary financial resources for the digitalization and linking of the data, explained Dobrindt. At the same time, it is about equipping these protective spaces: While not every place will be permanently equipped like a bunker, material and capacity will be prepared in advance to be able to use beds and other necessary equipment for a longer stay flexibly.
