Bernice Offei battled dementia for five years – Former manager reveals

Veteran gospel singer Bernice Offei battled dementia for approximately five years prior to her death at the age of 63, according to her former manager, Kwasi Ernest. The condition impacted Offei's memory and capacity to perform daily tasks, ultimately playing a role in her disappearance and eventual discovery. In an interview on Max TV, Ernest confirmed the gospel singer's demise, elaborating on how the progression of dementia had caused her to become disoriented and struggle to return home.

He explained, "For four to five years, she had been battling with dementia that affected her brain. When someone is sick of dementia, it affects the daily life of the person." The singer had ventured out when the condition was triggered, making it challenging for her to identify her residence. Following an initial family search, her whereabouts were made public, leading to her eventual discovery.

Upon her finding, the family rushed her to the hospital for medical care, but her health continued to decline, resulting in her passing on September 12, 2026. Ernest, who managed Offei during a portion of her career, also lauded her character, describing her as a disciplined and God-fearing individual whose faith was evident in her actions.

He emphasized that Offei was not just a preacher but someone who actively embodied her beliefs. Her death has prompted tributes from peers and admirers who recall her impact on Ghana's gospel music landscape.
