Beijing hits back at Anthropic CEO’s call to curb China’s AI development

China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly responded to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's call for the U.S. to limit China's artificial intelligence development. Amodei's essay, published on Saturday, argued that a Chinese lead in AI would pose a grave danger to the United States and the world. He urged continued restrictions on the sale of cutting-edge AI chips and chipmaking equipment to China to maintain the U.S. AI advantage.

However, China's spokesperson Guo Jiakun cautioned that fearmongering, confrontation, and competitive rivalry would only disrupt global AI governance, serving no one's interest. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump downplayed concerns about slowing down AI development, stating that the U.S. is currently ahead of China in AI and that whoever emerges victorious in AI will ultimately win.
