Beggars will lead revolution if Nigerians stop giving them alms — Seun Kuti

Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has argued that the act of giving alms to street beggars in Nigeria is hindering the nation's potential for positive change through revolution. During an interview with ObjecTV, Kuti contended that because Nigerians continuously provide financial support to beggars, they are not sufficiently motivated to rise up against the current political climate.

He suggested that beggars should be sufficiently desperate and angry to spark a revolution, but their regular alms donations are pacifying them. "The beggars are the ones who are supposed to be angry in order to cause revolution, but since we give them money from time to time, they are not hungry enough to be angry," Kuti explained.

His comments have sparked a range of reactions on social media, with some questioning whether the lack of charity towards beggars alone can trigger a revolution. Seun Kuti has long been a proponent of revolution in Nigeria, criticizing the present politicians for their corruption.
