Beds too short in 'worst-ever' Asian Games rooms, says Korea team

Korean officials have described the accommodation at the upcoming Asian Games in Japan as the worst ever, and expressed concern over a severe shortage of rooms. Beds provided in shipping container-style huts are deemed too short for athletes to fully extend themselves, according to a Korean basketball chief. The Philippines, facing a similar situation, resorted to using Airbnb for their accommodation needs.

Notably, there is no separate athletes' village for the Games; instead, organizers have relied on a cruise ship, temporary wooden cabins, and hotels to reduce costs. The Nagoya and Aichi prefecture city in Japan will host the Games, which officially open on Saturday, although football and basketball activities have already begun.

Jung Jae-yong, vice president of the Korea Basketball Association, expressed his dissatisfaction with the cabins where the men's basketball team is staying. He stated that based on his experience, this is the worst accommodation he has witnessed in the Asian Games. He highlighted that athletes over two meters tall cannot even stretch their legs on the inadequate beds, calling it unreasonable.

A basketball team member, Byeon Jun-hyeong, shared a video on social media showcasing a leaking sink and a soaked floor in his hut, further emphasizing the poor conditions.
