Bamanga Tukur Buried in Yola as Shettima, Ododo Mourn Deceased Elder Statesman

Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, a former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and esteemed elder statesman, was laid to rest in his hometown of Yola, Adamawa on Sunday. The burial, performed according to Islamic customs, was overseen by the Chief Imam of Modibbo Adamawa Central Mosque, Alhaji Ahmadu Bobboi. Tukur's remains were interred in the family home at Fadde-Sanda, Abuja Road, Yola.

The funeral services, which drew dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond, were marked by heartfelt tributes from Aliko Dangote, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, and Senator Iya Abbas. Vice-President Kashim Shettima expressed profound sorrow over the loss, hailing Tukur as a true patriot, global citizen, and a towering institution builder in Nigeria and Africa.

Shettima detailed Tukur's remarkable career, noting his pivotal role in modernizing Nigeria's maritime infrastructure, including the construction of the Tin Can Island Port Complex and the renovation of key ports such as Apapa, Warri, Calabar, Sapele, and Onne. His political career spanned decades, including significant service as Governor of Gongola State and as Minister for Industries, as well as his tenure as National Chairman of the PDP during a challenging period.

Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo also mourned Tukur's passing, emphasizing the profound impact of his contributions to public service, business, and national politics.
