Bagbin urges Ewe diaspora to convert cultural network into investment platform

Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bahbin urged the Ewe diaspora to transform their cultural network into an investment platform, aiming for economic growth in Ghana. During the 33rd anniversary celebration of the Council of Ewe Associations of North America (CEANA) in Washington, D.C., Bahbin emphasized the diaspora's potential to leverage its strong social capital for sustainable development.

CEANA, founded in 1993, has contributed to Ghana's development through scholarships and infrastructure projects. However, Bahbin called on CEANA to use its extensive network to connect traditional leaders, local stakeholders, and international partners in key sectors like agriculture, tourism, infrastructure, and enterprise development.

The call was supported by Council of State member Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, who stressed the need for unity among leaders to unlock the Volta Region's potential. Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama, who also addressed the gathering, highlighted Ghana's economic stability as a foundation for diaspora investment. Asiama encouraged Ghanaians abroad to convert their remittances, totaling US$7.8 billion in 2025, into long-term productive capital.

The celebration featured high-profile attendees, including former High Commissioner to the UK Victor Smith, Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Ben Dotsei Malor, and several Members of Parliament.
