Attaullah Mengal remembered on fifth death anniversary

Karachi witnessed a tribute to the late Baloch leader, Sardar Attaullah Khan Mengal, on Sunday at the Karachi Press Club. Organized by the Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M), the event marked the fifth death anniversary of Attaullah Mengal and the first death anniversary of those killed in a bomb blast at Quetta’s Shahwani Stadium.

Attended by political figures including Sardar Akhtar Mengal, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Asad Qaiser, Salman Akram Raja, Maulana Rashid Mahmood Soomro, Syed Zain Shah, Kabir Muhammad Shahi, Haleem Adil Sheikh, Asghar Khan Achakzai, the speakers paid tribute to Mengal's political career and services. They emphasized that his contributions would be remembered.

Politicians also discussed broader political issues, urging an all-parties conference to address constitutional supremacy, strengthening Parliament, justice, peace, terrorism, and the challenges facing Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They opposed proposals for new provinces, stating that the country already grapples with managing its existing provincial structure.

Allama Nasir Abbas highlighted the importance of the Constitution and rule of law for the nation's stability, stressing the need for constitutional governance and citizens' rights. PTI leader Asad Qaiser argued that the people of Balochistan deserved to benefit from their province's natural resources. Syed Zain Shah criticized the implementation of the 1973 Constitution, calling for greater provincial autonomy.

Barrister Raja clarified that a two-thirds majority resolution of the relevant provincial assembly is required to divide a province. The participants unanimously adopted resolutions demanding an end to the use of force in Balochistan, the release of political prisoners, and the recovery of missing persons. They also sought the implementation of the Supreme Court's decision concerning PTI founder Imran Khan.
