Ashanti Regional Minister halts 24-Hour Market project in Mankranso over school demolition concerns

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has halted construction on the 24-Hour Economy Market project in Mankranso due to concerns over a school facility potentially being demolished. This decision followed allegations in a video on social media that a classroom block was at risk of being taken down to make room for the market.

Dr Amoakohene assured the public that the school has not been demolished and will not be, stating there are no plans to demolish the block. The Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly also denied the claims, describing them as "false, misleading and politically motivated." The DCE, Abubakar Sedik, emphasized that the market project is independent of the school facility, which was built in 2022 but has remained unused.

While acknowledging the school's significance to the community, Sedik said the Assembly had no plans to demolish it and remains committed to improving the district's living conditions. The Minister's suspension of the market project means construction will remain halted until a review by relevant stakeholders takes place.
