APC Primary: ‘I’m sorry, Daddy’ — Desmond Elliot kneels, apologises to Gbajabiamila

Desmond Elliot, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has extended his apologies to Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, regarding his behavior during the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in Lagos. A video went viral showing Elliot kneeling before Gbajabiamila and requesting forgiveness, while also expressing his desire to regain acceptance within the APC in Lagos.

Elliot explained his apology by stating, "I’m sorry, I have no excuse. I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry, and I am hoping to be cultured in the future." This statement followed a dispute with the party leadership over the APC primary held in May to choose its candidate for the Surulere Constituency I seat. Elliot had withdrawn from the primary, claiming that his supporters faced intimidation and political pressure during the election.

Subsequently, Elliot disputed the election's results and vowed to contest the process through the party's appeal system. He ultimately lost the APC ticket to Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, who was believed to have the support of Gbajabiamila. Odunuga-Bakare received 11,385 votes in the primary, compared to Elliot's 270 votes.
