Anwar meets India’s Grand Mufti, discusses interfaith understanding and harmony

KERALAM, India - Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim met with India's Grand Mufti, Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad, at Jamia Markaz in Calicut following the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, on September 14th. During a one-hour discussion, both leaders explored topics of community development, educational empowerment, and the promotion of interfaith understanding and harmony.

Accompanied by Investment and Trade Minister Johari Abdul Ghani, Anwar arrived at the venue at 5:50 PM local time. The Grand Mufti, 10th in rank, is a Keralan-born scholar and is well-known for emphasizing the practical application of Islamic scholarship to address societal issues like poverty, limited education access, orphanhood, unemployment, and social exclusion.

Anwar, currently on a five-day visit to India, also participated in a Maghrib prayer and a meeting focused on religious knowledge at the institution, which is a prominent Islamic center in India. The Malaysian delegation had arrived in Calicut by 4:56 PM local time earlier that day.
