Anthropic Makes $13.7 Compute Deal With Trump-Linked Rum Group

Anthropic, the AI company, has reportedly inked a $13.7 billion, six-year deal with Rum Group, a social media and AI infrastructure company. This acquisition, disclosed by The Information on Sept. 14, follows a series of cloud computing deals Anthropic has made with other corporations in the past year, including Google, SpaceX, and smaller neoclouds like Nscale.

These contracts, excluding the Rum Group agreement, have resulted in at least 14.8 gigawatts of compute capacity and a potential cost of up to $517 billion over the next decade. Rum Group, known for its conservative-leaning video platform Rumble and links to President Donald Trump’s administration, recently acquired Northern Data, a German neocloud, and rebranded itself as Rum Group.

The deal reportedly involves Anthropic leasing compute capacity at a data center in Georgia that is still under construction. Northern Data had stated that this site would debut late in 2025, although the current timeline remains uncertain. Rum Group is planning to secure financing for the data center, with the company revealing in August that it currently lacks the necessary funding for construction and equipment.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei recently called for independent evaluators to be placed at leading AI companies and governments to regulate the rapid advancement of AI models. He emphasized the need for a safety review, as well as independent evaluators with access to permissions and tools similar to those of internal risk teams.
