During his post-match press conference, Zverev was asked if he believes he is now the best player in the world. "Right, right now," he responded, acknowledging that both Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, his closest rivals, were currently dealing with injuries or recovering from long-term injuries.

"Both of them healthy, both of them at the top of their game? Maybe not," Zverev added, recognizing that their current form would likely make Zverev less dominant. Zverev's record against Sinner and Alcaraz this year has been less than stellar, with a 0-5 win-loss record and only one set won against Sinner. However, his victories in the US Open and Australian Open have given him a significant edge in the world rankings, with Zverev currently sitting at 2,000 points behind Sinner.

Despite the close competition, Zverev remains optimistic about his chances to finish the 2026 season as the world number one, with the ATP Finals qualification already secured.
