AI kiosk that can translate any language and file tourist reports? Saifuddin challenges staff to innovate

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 14 — Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution has challenged his staff to create an AI-powered kiosk that can translate any language and file reports with Malaysian authorities in Bahasa Melayu. The senator views this kiosk machine as a "dream" that he hopes will become a reality within his ministry as the Anwar government encourages widespread AI adoption in daily operations.

Speaking at the ministry's monthly assembly, Saifuddin emphasized the importance of embracing AI, noting that they began this journey three years ago. The minister explained that tourists, regardless of their nationality, would benefit from such a kiosk when faced with emergencies such as stolen bags, lost passports, or assaults.

The AI machine would translate the tourists' languages and swiftly draft reports in Bahasa Melayu. Malaysia is actively positioning itself as a regional AI hub, attracting major global players like Microsoft, Google, and Nvidia to invest billions in developing hyperscale data centers, cloud regions, and advanced AI infrastructure.

The government's push towards AI integration aligns with the National Artificial Intelligence Roadmap 2021-2025 and the Madani Economy framework, with civil servants encouraged to transition from theoretical AI strategies to practical applications for citizens.
