In response to a statement by Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yang Jiechi argued that such a strategy would only stifle China's artificial intelligence development and consolidate Washington's monopoly on advanced technology.

This perspective was echoed by other industry leaders, including Elon Musk of Tesla and Demis Hassabis of DeepMind, who joined Amodei in advocating for a delay in China's technological progress. The Chinese government's stance was described as "unfair and short-sighted" by the Global Times, a state-run newspaper. Meanwhile, U.S. officials expressed concern over the strategy's potential to weaken American national security.

Despite these tensions, both countries found themselves entangled in a "prisoner's dilemma," where the fear of initiating measures first dampened prospects for cooperation.
