Accra Mayor leads demolition of illegal goat pen in Bukom after child’s death

The Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, took action to remove an unauthorized goat pen in Bukom, Odododiodio constituency. Concerns over the placement of goats in the community and the hazards they posed, especially to children, prompted the move. The Mayor had previously dealt with the goat owner through court action, fining him and ordering him to cease the activity.

Despite this, the individual returned and resumed the goat pen operation. Tragedy struck when one of the goats struck a child, causing a spinal injury from which the child ultimately died. The Accra Metropolitan Assembly proceeded to demolish the unauthorized pen, intending to auction the goats. The Mayor stated that the auction proceeds would be donated to the child's family to help with their loss.

This action is part of the Mayor's commitment to enforcing laws and regulations in the Odododiodio area, warning residents against constructing unauthorized structures or engaging in actions that endanger others. Additionally, the Assembly cleared structures built by squatters at Dogo Beach following prior notices. The Mayor reiterated that the Assembly would persist in enforcing regulations to restore order and ensure public spaces are utilized for their intended purposes.
