Zulum: After Tinubu, presidency will return to North

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has called on Nigerians to be patient as the Federal Government tackles insecurity, poverty, and other issues. Following a meeting with Northern Nigeria women Ulama and Islamic scholars in Kaduna, Zulum stated that Northern leaders had agreed to support President Bola Tinubu's re-election, with the understanding that power would soon return to the North.

This decision, Zulum explained, aims to foster unity and maintain harmonious relations between Northern and Southern Nigeria. He highlighted that this arrangement was reached five years ago and that the North had backed Tinubu's candidacy, emphasizing the importance of political understanding between the two regions. Zulum affirmed that Northern leaders remain committed to upholding promises made to Southern leaders regarding power rotation.

During his interaction with the women Ulama, Zulum stressed the importance of peace, unity, and understanding across the country. He urged these women to convey the messages from the meeting to their respective states and communities. Zulum highlighted women's pivotal role in fostering peace, emphasizing their influence within families and communities.

He reminded them that Islamic teachings underscore the significance of patience during trials. Zulum cautioned against allowing politics to undermine peaceful coexistence, noting that Northern leaders had historically supported Southern Nigeria after benefiting from political power. He recalled past negotiations between Northern and Southern leaders, based on mutual support and power rotation.

Zulum encouraged Northern leaders to patiently allow the South to complete its term while working together to shape the region's political future. He expressed optimism that justice would prevail and called on Nigerians to collaborate in addressing areas needing improvement. Commending the organizers of the women Ulama meeting, Zulum emphasized its significance in strengthening peace and unity.

He urged participants to replicate such engagements in their states, particularly by mobilizing women towards peaceful coexistence, as women constitute a substantial portion of the electorate in Borno, estimated at 60-65%.
