Women's volleyball team heads to Japan with sights set on redemption

The Korean women's volleyball team departed for Japan on Sunday to compete in the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, determined to make up for their failure to reach the podium at the 2023 event in Hangzhou, China. Head coach Cha Sang-hyun led the squad, which will participate in Pool D's preliminary round alongside Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Qatar. The top two teams from each of the four groups will advance to the quarterfinals.

Pool D matches are scheduled to commence at 4 p.m. on Wednesday against Hong Kong, with all Group D games held at Park Arena Komaki in Komaki, located north of Nagoya. Following the Asian championships in August, the team has been focusing on regaining their strength and conditioning, as well as refining their set plays for the Asian Games.

Cha expressed his emotional disappointment at Korea's performance in the 2023 Asian Games, where they lost to Vietnam in the first preliminary match and did not advance to the medal phase. Despite this setback, he emphasized the team's strong determination and the belief that they will secure positive results in Japan.
