Winners and losers from F1's underwhelming Spanish GP

The inaugural Formula 1 race in Madrid, held at the newly unveiled Madring circuit, saw mixed results. While Kimi Antonelli, driving for Mercedes, showcased his exceptional speed and determination, securing a victory, Lando Norris, also in a McLaren, faced some unfortunate circumstances.

Antonelli, a relative newcomer to the championship, managed to navigate the circuit's challenging corners and straight lines with skill. However, his teammate, Lando Norris, was unlucky during the race. A Virtual Safety Car (VSC) event disrupted Norris's perfect qualifying position, limiting his opportunities to make strategic pit stops and allowing Max Verstappen to overtake.

Max Verstappen from Red Bull Racing also had a solid weekend, finishing second behind the dominant Norris. Despite the circuit's rough characteristics, Verstappen managed to hold his position, proving that Red Bull's subtle improvements are beginning to pay off.

Lewis Hamilton, driving for Mercedes, narrowly avoided a significant incident at the start of the race. After colliding with Verstappen, the Briton managed to continue without further complications. However, Fernando Alonso, also in an Aston Martin, struggled throughout the race after a brake system failure forced him to retire.

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, who faced a brake system failure, was another victim of the Madring's challenging conditions, ultimately failing to secure a podium finish. On the other hand, Franco Colapinto, the reserve driver for Alpine, demonstrated remarkable skill and composure, securing a seventh-place finish in the championship. Alonso's reserve driver faced a tough challenge, but Colapinto's performance was commendable.
