Pendakwah Firdaus Wong questioned whether Malaysian citizens were treating non-citizens fairly while emphasizing that even prisoners of war still deserve human rights. Kuala Lumpur: Wong urged Malaysian citizens not to deny the humanity of Rohingya refugees, stressing that although they do not enjoy the same rights as citizens, they still possess fundamental human dignity.

He explained that Malaysian citizens need to distinguish between rights granted to citizens and the basic rights that refugees should be entitled to as fellow human beings. "Only because they are not citizens, only because they are Rohingya, only because they are refugees, that gives no one the right to deny humanity to them," he said.

Wong expressed his anger during the 2026 Broader Muslim Community Conference at the Grand Hyatt Hotel on September 4. Tenaganita Executive Director Glorene Das characterized public outrage over the plight of Rohingya as misplaced due to overlooking the deeper social causes behind the issue. She noted that among these problems are the exclusion from legal labor markets and lack of legal recognition.

She stated that those violating the law should be held accountable, but actions by a few individuals should not be used to judge or deny the humanity of the entire community. Wong also likened this situation to serving the Palestinian people, stating that their suffering also began with denial of their humanity. "Just as we do not like what is happening in Palestine due to the denial of the humanity of Palestinians, the same applies to the situation of Rohingya."

Wong questioned whether Malaysian citizens were treating stateless individuals fairly, emphasizing that even prisoners of war still deserve basic rights.
