University student electrocuted at fish pond during practical training

A tragic accident occurred at a fish pond in Pantai Air Tawar, Pahang, on Wednesday afternoon, where a university student and a pond owner were found unconscious and later pronounced dead at the scene. Rubayyi Razali, a 27-year-old student in her second year of a biodiversity degree at Universiti Teknologi Mara, and her 49-year-old colleague, Wan Adilah Wan Awang, were discovered by Rubayyi's husband, Wan Muhammad Naim Wan Hussin, a 28-year-old fish pond owner.

Wan Naim, who was fetching his wife at around 1pm, immediately sought assistance from nearby breeders upon realizing that both individuals were unresponsive. He suspected that they had been electrocuted, as there was an electrical wire nearby and flowing water from the pond.

Rubayyi, who had been undergoing practical training at the fish pond since August 10, was expected to complete her training by October 2. She is married with two young sons, aged two and four months. Wan Naim, the father, and his wife had been expecting their second child.

The Besut police chief, Rozaime Ab Rahim, confirmed that both victims were pronounced dead at the site. The authorities are investigating the cause of death, which is believed to be electrocution due to the presence of an electrical wire in the vicinity.
