Two French presidential candidates call for increased support for Ukraine after Russian attack on train

Two French presidential candidates have called for increased support for Ukraine following a Russian drone attack on a train. Edouard Philippe, leader of the Horizons party and former French Prime Minister, stated that the attack once again demonstrates the dangerous logic behind Vladimir Putin's actions. He emphasized the need for Europe to remain united in its response and to tighten sanctions against Russia. Philippe also proposed using frozen Russian assets to force Putin to pay for the war.

Gabriel Attal, leader of the centrist Renaissance party, highlighted the proximity of the attack to the European Union's borders. He noted that the strike took place near the Yahodyn border crossing, which is two kilometers from Poland and the EU. Attal stressed that the attack on Ukraine's energy and railway infrastructure should serve as a wake-up call for new measures to protect Ukrainian skies and provide the country with the means to win the war. He reiterated his proposal to confiscate Russia's frozen assets to achieve this goal.
