Transparent's Amy Landecker tells casting directors to just Google her already

At the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of Chris Rock's film Misty Green, veteran actress Amy Landecker joined the star and co-stars on stage, including Rosalind Eleazar, Daniel Kaluuya, Topher Grace, and Tracie Thoms. Landecker, who has been in the industry for decades, shared her frustration with the current audition process.

"You have to tape at home and edit your own audition and light your own audition and find a reader," she lamented, according to Entertainment Weekly. "It is insane and it makes me crazy." Landecker went on to suggest, "Can we just get rid of the slate? That’s my speech!" In the A24 drama, Eleazar's character, Green, is an outspoken Emmy winner who refuses to be intimidated by the ageist and racist aspects of Hollywood.

Landecker, a Screen Actors Guild award winner for her role in Transparent, was quick to vent her own frustrations with the audition process. However, her male colleagues quickly defended the casting process, with Rock jokingly saying, "We love casting directors!" and Grace shouting, "We love producers!" Despite the professional defensiveness, Landecker praised Rock's film for accurately portraying the humiliations actors face in the industry.

She expressed her appreciation for Rock's depiction of the "humiliating" audition experience, noting that her co-star Eleazar also had to go through an intense audition process to secure her role as the lead in the film.
