Team Europe beat United States to reclaim Solheim Cup

Cromvoirt: In Sunday's decisive singles matches, Team Europe triumphed over the United States and reclaimed the Solheim Cup after a rollercoaster three days. Lottie Woad delivered a crucial putt on the 17th green, securing an unassailable lead for Europe. Woad, playing in her first Solheim Cup, was mobbed by her teammates and cheered on by a lively crowd at the first European-hosted edition in the Netherlands.

For only the seventh occasion, the teams began the singles round tied at 8-8. Europe took an early lead in the individual contests, buoyed by England's Charley Hull, who redeemed herself after a difficult weekend and won her match to secure the first European point. World number one Nelly Korda contributed a point for the United States, but the Europeans' middle-match strength proved decisive.

Woad, who had struggled in the earlier matches, found redemption by sinking the winning putt against Auston Kim. Hull, despite having only half a point from her four matches, delivered a 3&2 comeback victory. Europe's Anna Lindqvist opted to start Hull first, despite her limited success, and she responded with a commendable 3&2 win.

England's Alison Lee staged a remarkable turnaround from four holes behind at the start of the round, securing the first US point with a 1-up victory over Esther Henseleit. However, Lee's efforts proved futile in the end. The United States aimed to retain the Solheim Cup on European soil for the first time since 2015, but they still maintain a series lead of 11-9. The next Solheim Cup will be held in September 2029 at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville.
