TCL sues Samsung for false advertising over ‘Mini LED’ televisions

TCL, a Chinese consumer electronics company, has filed a lawsuit against Samsung in a Los Angeles federal court, alleging Samsung's false advertising of certain televisions as using "Mini LED" technology. The legal action was taken on Monday, asserting that Samsung marketed its M Model televisions as possessing the advanced technology, which TCL claims is designed to enhance picture quality.

According to TCL, Samsung "took a cheap, non-Mini LED model from a recycled product line and sold it to consumers as a 'supreme' Mini LED model at an attractive price."

Samsung responded with a statement on Tuesday, asserting its intention to strongly defend itself against the lawsuit. The company stated that it "stands fully behind the quality and accuracy of our product descriptions." Samsung's legal team highlighted that the false advertising led consumers seeking superior picture quality to buy Samsung's incorrectly labeled products, causing "unfair damage to TCL's sales, reputation, and valuable technology."

TCL maintains that its Mini LED technology offers "substantially better picture quality with greater dynamic range and higher contrast ratios." The company stated that it surpassed Samsung in U.S. Mini LED television sales between 2023 and 2025 due to Samsung's inability to develop competitively priced Mini LED televisions. TCL accused Samsung of launching its M Model televisions in March at lower prices than TCL's cheapest Mini LED models and advertising them as featuring Mini LED technology.

However, TCL's lawsuit claims these products "contain no technological advancements associated with Mini LED" and are merely recycled versions of Samsung's regular LED televisions.

In its legal bid, TCL is seeking a court order halting Samsung's use of the term "Mini LED" and an unspecified amount of monetary compensation.
