Surge acquires majority stake in IDEA8 to launch Surge Robotics

Surge has acquired a majority stake in IDEA8, a company specializing in IoT and embedded systems, with the aim of launching Surge Robotics. This new venture will concentrate on industrial automation, intelligent hardware, and connected manufacturing. The acquisition signifies a shift for Surge, expanding its focus from enterprise software to physical technology.

By merging Surge's software, AI, and cloud capabilities with IDEA8's expertise in embedded systems, sensors, and industrial IoT, the combined entity aims to create innovative solutions.

IDEA8 has successfully deployed technology across various countries, including Sri Lanka, India, Singapore, Thailand, Spain, and South Korea. Some notable projects include a pilot at a Uniqlo manufacturing facility in India, along with engagements with MAS and Brandix. The systems developed by IDEA8 run on a range of platforms such as ESP32, STM32, Raspberry Pi, and NVIDIA Jetson, utilizing BLE, Wi-Fi, CAN, and MQTT protocols.

These technologies enable the connection of machinery, collection of real-time data, and the automation of environments where legacy equipment has remained offline.

Surge Robotics, the new business formed by this acquisition, will leverage these capabilities in conjunction with Surge's software, data, and AI infrastructure. Initially, the focus will be on manufacturing, apparel, warehousing, and logistics. This will encompass areas such as machine monitoring, predictive maintenance, production analytics, computer vision, asset tracking, quality control, and factory automation.
