Sudahkah Umno faham mengapa rakyat rampas kuasanya, soal penganalisis

Analysts question whether Umno truly grasps why the people stripped it of power following the 2026 General Election. In the aftermath of the PAU 2026, Umno must demonstrate an understanding of the reasons behind the people's loss of confidence, if it hopes to be seen as a forward-looking government after the 2016 General Election.

The analysts query what Umno has shown the people in terms of awareness and economic principles, beyond its political machinery and management experience, which are difficult to emulate. Some Umno leadership seem to continue speaking as if the people are still waiting for them to return. Meanwhile, some people may be waiting to see what truly changes, according to Zaharuddin Sani Ahmad Sabri, an analyst at Global Asia Consulting.

He suggests that the 2014 General Election should have been Umno's biggest shock in modern history. To regain trust, he says they must learn from issues related to integrity, GLC management, the Felda controversy, the Tabung Haji controversy, patronage politics, and the failure to adapt to the changing profile of voters. So the question remains: what must Umno learn from losing power?

For example, how must Umno ensure that GLCs do not become a political patronage ground? How will economic decisions be made based on merit and not connections? How will the party handle conflicts of interest? How will leaders be held accountable for failures? Also, Umno's economic proposal must be more convincing than mere handouts, subsidies, or promises.

Umno cannot rebuild itself merely by stating that Malays need Umno, by citing the outcomes of the 2014 and 2015 General Elections, or by claiming that the rise of PAS shows that argument is insufficient. The question now is not whether Malays need Umno, but rather, why Malays and the Malaysian people should choose Umno again? The answer must come from performance, integrity, and management ability, says Zaharuddin.

Meanwhile, another analyst suggests that Umno could be a realistic choice leading up to the 2016 General Election if it can combine the experience of governing with modernization, a new generation of leadership, and a platform that touches the lives of the people. Besides proving it has a capable team, solid foundation, and management skills, Umno must also show that it has learned from past management failures.

Acknowledging shortcomings is not a sign of weakness for Umno, but rather a sign of a mature party ready to govern better once again, says Awang Azman Awang Pawi, an analyst at Universiti Malaya. Issues that have questioned the people's confidence, including those related to managing institutions like Felda and Tabung Haji, must be addressed with a stronger commitment to transparency, accountability, and institutional reform, he adds.

Acknowledging weaknesses is not an admission of defeat but rather an indication of a party mature enough to govern better in the future.
