Russia’s Youth Festival could unlock business partnerships and scholarships for Ghanaian youth – John Aggrey

John Aggrey, CEO of the Ghana Russia Centre for Commerce and Relations, believes the upcoming 2026 International Festival of Youth (IYF) in Russia could yield significant opportunities for Ghanaian youth. Over 20 Ghanaian youth are currently participating in the festival, which runs from September 11 to 17, 2026, in Ekaterinburg. The event offers a unique chance for Ghanaian young people to build international networks in sectors such as entrepreneurship, technology, media, education, and culture, according to Aggrey.

At the festival, Ghanaian delegates are engaging with international counterparts, which could potentially lead to concrete outcomes such as business partnerships, scholarships, or joint ventures, Aggrey explained. He likened these encounters to more than just cultural exchanges; they are the beginnings of lasting relationships that could bear fruit in the years to come.

Micheal Koomson, a Ghanaian participant, emphasized the long-term value of these kinds of international gatherings, stating that their benefits often manifest over time rather than immediately. The 2026 festival is one of the largest of its kind, bringing together 10,000 young leaders from 191 countries, comprising 5,000 Russians and 5,000 from other nations. This includes representation from Ghana alongside multiple African countries, signaling the growing role of young Africans in global affairs.

The Ghana Russia Center for Commerce and Relations aims to convert the goodwill and connections fostered at such events into tangible commercial and institutional partnerships. These relationships, sustained through everyday interactions among citizens, are crucial for strengthening bilateral ties between Ghana and Russia, Aggrey highlighted. Therefore, Ghana's participation in the festival is seen as pivotal for the future of relations between Accra and Moscow.
