Rivers gives commercial drivers ultimatum to paint vehicles

The Rivers State Ministry of Transport has issued a deadline of October 31, 2026, for commercial transport operators to paint their vehicles in the approved state colors. This measure is intended to enhance public safety and enable commuters to more easily recognize legitimate commercial vehicles. The directive, detailed in a statement by Permanent Secretary Dr (Mrs) Vera Sam-Dike, applies to taxi, bus, and tricycle (keke) operators.

The state warned that enforcement will begin immediately after the deadline, on November 1, 2026. If a commercial vehicle is found operating without the officially approved colors after this date, it will be impounded, and the operator will be prohibited from service until the vehicle meets the color requirements and any associated fines are paid.

The statement emphasized that this directive is crucial for improving public security and ensuring the easy identification of legitimate commercial transport vehicles. Operators are advised to reach out to the Head of the Land Transportation Department at the Ministry of Transport, Eng. Andrew Alapuberesisika, for further information, particularly regarding subsidized painting workshops.

The state government expressed gratitude for the cooperation of transport union leaders and vehicle owners who have already complied with the directive.
