Restaurant Owner Killed After Speeding Travel Bus Runs Over Scooter On Eastern Express Highway In Vikhroli

Mumbai witnessed a tragic accident on September 12 morning when a speeding travel bus crashed into a scooter, killing its 38-year-old rider near the Vikhroli-Ghatkopar Bridge on the Eastern Express Highway. The victim has been identified as Lalit Kantilal Jain, a resident of Bhandup West and owner of the restaurant, Lalit Cafe. Jain had left his home around 6 am to buy supplies for his restaurant.

The bus driver is alleged to have been driving recklessly at high speed when he hit Jain's Honda Activa scooter, causing him to lose balance and fall onto the road. The bus' rear wheel subsequently ran over Jain's head, leaving him critically injured. Emergency services were informed about the accident by locals, after which the injured was taken to Rajawadi Hospital.

Despite efforts from the doctors, Jain was declared dead upon arrival. The incident has been registered as a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act. The police stated that the unidentified bus driver was accused of driving rashly and negligently, which led to the fatal collision. The driver is also alleged to have fled the spot without offering medical assistance to the injured individual or informing the police about the accident.

The police are conducting further investigations, with efforts being made to locate the fleeing bus driver.
