Rahul Gandhi has taken issue with the lack of non-vegetarian options at the BRICS gala dinner hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. In a post on X, Gandhi noted that 80% of India's population are non-vegetarians, and suggested that the lack of meat dishes on the vegetarian-focused menu represented a "shame" for a country with such diverse culinary traditions.

The dinner menu instead featured a range of vegetarian dishes inspired by different regions of India, including starters like Khandvi Mille-Feuille with kesar mango dressing, mushroom-based kebabs called Khumb Galouti, and a variety of breads and desserts. Gandhi highlighted the hypocrisy of the menu in light of Chinese President Xi and Russian President Putin's insistence on non-vegetarian offerings before agreeing to attend the BRICS summit.
