Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's return to the United Kingdom has effectively ended their aspirations for success in the American entertainment industry, according to a PR expert. Eric Schiffer, chair of Reputation Management Consultants, stated that this decision is the "kiss of death to stardom in America for both of them." The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made the move at the end of August but have not yet sold their California home in Montecito, and some reports suggest their move may be temporary.

Despite several Netflix TV projects, including adaptations of Carley Fortune's romance novel Meet Me at the Lake and British military officer Major Adam Jowett's memoir No Way Out, the couple's recent career trajectory has been challenging. Their Netflix deal with Spotify collapsed in 2023, and Meghan's lifestyle TV show With Love, Meghan, received poor reviews.

The couple was under scrutiny for their perceived self-inflicted setbacks in the U.S., particularly Harry's controversial memoir Spare and Meghan's "grifter" label on a podcast. The decision to move back to Britain has been viewed as a loss of stardom and a potential shift towards outcast status. While there is speculation about Meghan returning to acting, Schiffer believes that their chances of success in Hollywood are now effectively dead, with any further endeavors likely to face significant obstacles.
