PIO missing in Nepal; help denied as he holds Indian passport: UK MP

A 66-year-old Indian academic, Dr Anirban Bhattacharyya, who has lived in Britain for over six decades, is missing following the floods in Nepal on August 26. His constituency MP in the UK, Ian Lavery, has accused authorities of denying assistance to Bhattacharyya due to his Indian passport. Bhattacharyya, a research associate at Newcastle University's School of Computing, holds degrees from King's College London and South Bank Polytechnic, and completed his PhD at Newcastle University in 2013.

He was traveling with the Kolkata-based Chalo Jaai Travel Club on a Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage organized by Samrat Tours and Travels, and is currently among 32 members of the group still unaccounted for near Timure-Rasuwagadhi.
