One Nation migration plan to cut students and migrant worker families

One Nation plans to cut Australia's temporary migration program by targeting international students and families of skilled migrants, according to party leader. The party aims to reduce net overseas migration by more than 750,000 over three years, eventually settling at an annual target of 130,000.

A private member's bill will be introduced by Independent MP Nicolette Boele to establish a nationwide definition of affordable housing, tied to household incomes and linked to housing programs and funding agreements. Boele emphasizes the need for confidence and integrity in using taxpayer money to deliver affordable homes.

The definition could help eliminate the unregulated "cowboy industry" of apartments advertised at excessively high prices, such as $1,100 per week, which are classified as affordable housing by the system.

One Nation's migration plan will see net overseas migration dip below zero for a period, with international student visas capped at 100,000 a year. Additionally, the party intends to tighten eligibility for student graduate visas and create a new visa for post-graduate students in high-value fields like science, engineering, and medical research.

However, the party also plans to remove around 70,000 secondary visas granted to family members of skilled migrants. They will tighten visa conditions for student graduates and eliminate visa overstayers, who must leave within three months or face enforcement and a lifetime ban on re-entering Australia.
