‘Not Against Any Festival’: Nagpur Residents Hold Silent March Over Noise Pollution, High-Decibel Music Amid Festive Celabrations

Nagpur residents took to the streets on Sunday for a silent march, expressing concerns over rising noise pollution and high-decibel music during Ganesh festival preparations. Organizer Sandeep Joshi clarified that the protest is not against any festival, religion, or political party, emphasizing that the issue lies in the potential harm to the elderly, pregnant women, and small children.

The protest organizers stated, "We want to clarify that we are not opposed to any festival, religion, or political party. Our objection and concern stem from the fact that the eardrums of the elderly, patients, and small children in our homes are being damaged, and retinas are being ruptured by laser beams." This movement will continue unabated, according to Joshi.

The protest took place a day after Nagpur celebrated the centuries-old Marbat festival, a unique cultural tradition marked by vibrant processions featuring giant effigies representing societal issues. Despite the loud music and festivities, the protests highlight the community's desire to address noise pollution and protect vulnerable individuals.
