Nkwanta South farmers receive 1,000 bags of fertilizer to boost food production

Farmers in the Nkwanta South Municipality are set to enhance food production following the delivery of over 1,000 bags of NPK fertilizer, aimed at boosting crop cultivation and increasing yields throughout the region. The fertilizer, distributed through government action led by the Member of Parliament (MP) and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), was given to farmers in every one of the 30 electoral areas of the municipality.

This assistance aims to strengthen the output of vital food crops and enable farmers to cope with current difficulties in sourcing farming inputs. MP Geoffrey Kini explained that farming is crucial to the local economy and household income, and that fertilizer has become both scarce and expensive. He emphasized that the timely intervention is essential as farmers gear up for the planting season and seek to optimize yields.

Kini highlighted that the distribution was carried out directly to ordinary farmers, with previous efforts not always being publicly distributed in a way that ensured equitable access and transparency. MCE Joseph Awal Antwi endorsed the importance of prioritizing farmer support, noting that roughly 71 percent of the municipality's population is involved in farming.

He explained that expanding farmers' access to inputs is vital for household incomes, local food supply, and market stability. Antwi also mentioned that Nkwanta South will benefit from the upcoming Farmer Service Center initiative, which is expected to improve access to agricultural services and inputs in the future. The beneficiary farmers expressed appreciation for the intervention, viewing it as a significant boost that will enable them to expand cultivation and improve yields.

However, they appealed for more supplies, stating that while the 1,000 bags will make a meaningful difference, it may not fully meet the municipality's demand. They voiced hope that additional support would be provided to maintain momentum and ensure that increased production translates into improved food security.
