Minister of Labour meets several officials on sidelines of Arab Labour Conference

Qatar is participating in the 52nd session of the Arab Labour Conference, currently taking place in Cairo. The conference, chaired by His Excellency the Minister of Labour Dr Ali bin Samikh al-Marri, is centered around the report of the Arab Labour Organisation (ALO) director-general on the organization's activities and achievements in 2025. This report, along with other relevant documents, will be discussed alongside the outcomes of recent committee sessions held in Cairo and Kuwait.

Dr al-Marri addressed the plenary session, acknowledging the complex and delicate regional circumstances surrounding the conference. He emphasized that tensions and conflicts across the region have far-reaching impacts on the security, stability, and development of countries, as well as labor markets. Dr al-Marri stressed that regional security and stability are crucial for sustainable development and labor market stability, underlining the importance of de-escalation, dialogue, and diplomacy.

Qatar's labor market system has undergone significant reforms in recent years, guided by the country's development policies embodied in Qatar National Vision 2030. These reforms aim to create a more flexible, efficient, and sustainable labor market, including the introduction of a non-discriminatory minimum wage, strengthening the Wage Protection System, and enhancing labor inspection and occupational safety.

Dr al-Marri highlighted the need for investment in skills and reskilling, as well as proactive planning for the future of work, particularly in the face of rapid transformations brought about by artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and the green economy.
