Man killed after attempting to snatch cop’s firearm outside GSU college in Embakasi

A man was fatally shot on Saturday morning after allegedly attempting to steal a police officer's firearm outside the National Police B Campus in Embakasi, Nairobi. The incident unfolded at Gate D around 6:57 a.m. when an unidentified adult male approached the officers and allegedly tried to forcibly take one of their weapons. During the altercation, the man stabbed a General Service Unit police constable in the neck, causing serious injury.

In response, the officers discharged their weapons, fatally shooting the assailant who later died at the scene. The injured officer was transported to Reale Hospital and later referred to Modern Komarock Hospital for further care. The Embakasi Crime Scene Investigation team examined the scene, while the deceased was taken to Nairobi Funeral Home for identification and further inquiries.

The police are still investigating the man's motivations and the circumstances surrounding his actions. Meanwhile, in Ruiru, Kiambu County, a 23-year-old man named Alex Kamau Muthoni was arrested and a revolver pistol was recovered during a night patrol along Agape-Gikumari Road on September 11, 2026.
