Malaysia’s AI Nation plan by 2030 — how the government is preparing its people

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 14 — Malaysians increasingly employ AI in various aspects of their lives, from work to education and daily activities. The Malaysian government is prepared to integrate AI more deeply into society by 2030, ensuring citizens are prepared to understand and manage its implications. The National AI Action Plan 2026–2030 aims to create over 300,000 AI-related jobs by 2030, while the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint 2030 targets the reskilling and upskilling of 700,000 workers, with 80% of the population becoming digitally literate by the same year.

To achieve these goals, the government has implemented various initiatives. One such effort is the Jelajah AI MyMahir programme, which provides reskilling and upskilling opportunities for 685,000 workers who may face role changes due to AI advancements. Additionally, the Digital Ministry's Rakyat Digital platform offers free foundational learning on topics such as AI, cybersecurity, cloud technology, blockchain, and generative AI in multiple languages, catering to diverse learner groups.

The AI Untuk Rakyat programme specifically targets young Malaysians aged 18 to 30, providing six modules to enhance AI understanding and practical application. This comprehensive approach ensures that Malaysians are equipped to adapt to the evolving technological landscape while addressing potential risks associated with AI adoption.
