Macron, Carney to visit French islands after Trump’s map post

Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will visit Saint-Pierre-and-Miquelon, France's North Atlantic territory, next week. Their visit aims to underscore their support for national borders amid Donald Trump's territorial ambitions. The image shared by US President Trump showed a map of North America with several French territories, including Saint-Pierre-and-Miquelon, Guadeloupe, and Martinique, colored in the US flag.

The Elysee Palace stated that the leaders of France and Canada will visit the islands from September 19-21. Prime Minister Carney will join Macron for a brief meeting on September 20. Macron is set to address climate change affecting the territory, as the village of Miquelon is taking measures to move inland due to the growing threat of sea-level rise. This would be the first official visit by a Canadian prime minister to the archipelago.
