iOS 27 Available Tomorrow With These 8 New Features

Apple's iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo were unveiled last week, with their operating system, iOS 27, set to be released widely on September 14. Users can expect to access the update from their Settings app, under General → Software Update, around 10 a.m. Pacific Time or 1 p.m. Eastern Time tomorrow. Among the new features and changes in iOS 27, the standout enhancement is a revamped version of Siri, dubbed Siri AI.

This intelligent assistant can handle complex requests, drawing on personal data stored on the iPhone and performing actions across multiple apps that support it. Siri AI currently supports English and operates under daily usage limits, with expanded access potentially available for a fee. The feature is unavailable in the EU at the moment due to a regulatory dispute with the European Commission.

Alongside Siri AI, iOS 27 also introduces several Apple Intelligence enhancements, such as new Extend and Reframe options in the Photos app, photorealistic image generation in the Image Playground, shortcut creation via descriptions in the Shortcuts app, and generated video descriptions for HomeKit Secure Video cameras. Design-wise, iOS 27 brings a refined Liquid Glass interface, characterized by more uniform refraction, improved contrast, and sharper, more detailed app icons.

Users can control the Liquid Glass appearance using a new slider. Performance-wise, iOS 27 promises expedited app launches up to 30%, quicker loading of new photos in the Photos app library by up to 70%, and accelerated AirDrop transfers by as much as 80%. The iPhone Handoff feature has also been updated, enabling users to switch between two iPhones using the same phone number.

This functionality requires carrier support, with T-Mobile and Deutsche Telekom set to launch the feature first, followed by Verizon and the UK's EE. In the U.S., Apple Cash Bill Splitting is another new addition, allowing users to divide bills using Apple Cash and Apple Intelligence. Lastly, in the Find My app, iOS 27 enables custom duration and exact date/time location sharing, offering users greater control over their privacy.
