India wins cricket’s Women’s Asia Cup for the eighth time with 72-run win over Sri Lanka

In a surprising turn of events, India's women's cricket team declined to accept the Women's Asia Cup trophy from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president, Mohsin Naqvi, following their record-extending victory over Sri Lanka by 72 runs in Dubai. The Indian captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, and her teammates were captured celebrating their eighth Women's Asia Cup title.

However, they chose not to collect the trophy from Naqvi during the presentation ceremony. Once the ceremony concluded, Sri Lanka's team received their runners-up cheque, medals, and mementoes from the officials. Naqvi was present at the stadium as India secured their title, seated alongside BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla and secretary Devajit Saikia.

Later, Naqvi played a role in handing the runners-up cheque to Sri Lanka's captain, Chamari Athapaththu. The incident echoes a similar controversy involving Naqvi and the Indian men's team during the 2025 Asia Cup final, where the Indian players were delayed for more than an hour before receiving their trophy and medals.
