Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department announced the arrest of 472 foreign nationals during a massive enforcement operation at Lebuh Pudu in Kuala Lumpur today. The operation, which began around 11am, involved the inspection of approximately 2,500 foreign nationals. Hamsha Injau, the director of the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department, confirmed that the detained individuals ranged in age from 18 to 62 years old, comprising 439 males and 33 females.

These individuals will be placed at the Immigration Department's Depot Bukit Jalil for further investigation and subsequent actions. The department identified violations including the lack of valid identification documents, overstaying, using unapproved documents, and other breaches of the Immigration Act. The operation was carried out following complaints from the public about the presence of numerous foreign nationals and premises suspected of engaging in illegal activities, as well as premises potentially harboring or employing foreign nationals.

Premises suspected of operating illegally will be investigated and action taken by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) in accordance with the authority of relevant agencies. The department stated that the high volume of inspections today is due to Kuala Lumpur being a popular destination for those arriving from other states on weekends for shopping and work.

Injau emphasized that enforcement actions will continue unabated against any party violating immigration laws, including employers or property owners and individuals who harbor or employ unauthorized foreign nationals. The department is currently implementing the Migrant Repatriation Program, offering voluntary repatriation to foreign nationals residing for extended periods or lacking valid travel documents, with no additional fees imposed.
