I'm ready to be Swans captain, says Gulden

Sydney midfielder Errol Gulden has expressed his readiness to take on the role of stand-in captain for the Swans if the opportunity arises as the team aims for an AFL premiership. The Swans are currently missing five players who are serving suspensions, and they recently lost their captain, Callum Mills, to injury. The team will face Fremantle in a prelim final at the SCG on Friday night, with the potential to advance to the grand final.

Gulden, who has been instrumental in the Swans' recent success, believes he would be prepared to step up as a de facto captain if called upon. He praised Mills' leadership and stated that he would not change any of his current actions if the opportunity to captain presented itself. The 24-year-old midfielder's performance in the Swans' qualifying final win over Brisbane was a standout moment, leading to one goal, 34 disposals, and eight clearances.

Coach Dean Cox has other experienced leaders at his disposal, including former co-captain Dane Rampe, veteran Jake Lloyd, midfielder James Rowbottom, and Tom Papley. These players could also serve as key leaders for the team, especially considering Mills' potential absence for the entire 2027 season after knee surgery.
