Houthis say Saudi Arabia launched over 50 strikes in 24 hours

The Houthi militant group has accused Saudi Arabia of launching over 50 strikes against their positions in Yemen within a 24-hour period. This comes after the group claimed responsibility for a drone and missile attack on a Saudi military base. The ongoing conflict stems from Yemen's civil war, which reignited in July when the Houthis declared a maritime blockade and targeted Saudi ships in the Red Sea.

The recent clashes follow a week-long Houthi offensive that resulted in the capture of Yemen's Red Sea coast, granting control over the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a crucial trade route for Saudi oil exports. Yayha Saree, the Houthi military spokesman, reported that the Saudi enemy carried out 58 airstrikes in the past 24 hours. The Houthis have also reported their heaviest missile and drone attack in years, targeting oil sites and wounding 73 people.

The Saudi military responded with two strikes on a Houthi stronghold and artillery fire in a border district. Since Tuesday, the Houthis have reported over 100 strikes against their positions, with no confirmation from Riyadh. Prior to the latest escalation, the conflict had been dormant since the UN-brokered ceasefire in 2022.
