Homebrew 7.0.0

I am pleased to announce Homebrew 7.0.0, the latest version of this popular package manager for macOS and Linux. This release brings several major improvements over its predecessors.

First and foremost, Homebrew 7.0.0 offers significantly faster installations and upgrades. The software has been optimized for greater concurrency across downloads, preparation and installation, which maximizes performance while coordinating failures and summaries.

Another notable enhancement is the introduction of a native macOS app. This provides a more user-friendly interface for package management on Apple devices. The app is built-in and includes built-in vulnerability checks along with an advisory database.

Starting in September 2026, Homebrew will no longer support macOS 10.15. Additionally, Intel Macs will be moved to Tier 3, and support for these systems will end in September 2027. This change reflects Apple's own shift away from Intel support.

Homebrew 7.0.0 replaces the previous Bubblewrap sandboxing with a new security measure called Landlock. This new system requires no dependencies or escalated Docker permissions, eliminating many of the setup problems that plagued the previous version.

There have also been various security fixes and new installation protections implemented in this release. Tap trust remains the primary protection against malicious third-party casks, while sandboxing helps limit accidental damage and adds additional safeguards during installation.

Furthermore, Homebrew 7.0.0 includes improvements to command previews, package information, and service configuration. Brewfiles now record language-tool sources alongside other packages, reducing the need for separate installation instructions when reproducing an environment on another machine.

The formula links take precedence when formulae and casks provide the same commands, with warnings provided to help restore cask links if desired. Homebrew will continue to support Intel systems until September 2027, but it's important to note that project support and routine bottle builds will not be provided for these systems after that date.
