GHANBATT 92 returns home after challenging Lebanon peacekeeping mission

The Ghanaian peacekeeping contingent known as GHANBATT 92 has returned home after a challenging tour of duty in southern Lebanon with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). The troops arrived in Ghana on September 12, concluding their mission as GHANBATT 93 assumed responsibility for the UNIFIL assignment. GHANBATT 92 consisted of hundreds of Ghanaian soldiers who served in the region as part of Ghana's contributions to international peacekeeping operations.

The deployment took place amidst escalating hostilities in the region, which created difficult operational conditions. During the mission, a Ghanaian peacekeeper was injured in a missile attack. Despite these challenges, the contingent successfully completed its mandate and returned home.

Upon their return, Ghana's Chief of Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, expressed his admiration for the troops' bravery, discipline, and professionalism throughout the mission. He acknowledged the challenging conditions under which the soldiers operated and assured them that the Ghana Armed Forces would prioritize their welfare during the transition back to normal duties and family life.

The Chief of Army Staff also announced additional time off for the personnel to rest, recover, and reconnect with their families. This measure aimed to support the soldiers' emotional and mental well-being following their demanding international assignment. He also thanked the Ghana Airports Company Limited and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority for their support during the rotation of the peacekeeping contingent.

The Chief of Army Staff emphasized the importance of effective coordination between the Ghana Armed Forces and the relevant aviation and airport authorities to ensure smooth transitions for military personnel participating in international peacekeeping missions. He expressed gratitude to these institutions for their cooperation.

The return of GHANBATT 92 highlighted the soldier's resilience and commitment to their mandate, even in the face of security challenges. The Ghana Armed Forces stated that the soldiers' demonstration of discipline and professionalism was commendable. As the personnel shifted their focus from the operational environment to recovery, family reintegration, and preparation for future assignments, the Ghana Armed Forces pledged to continue prioritizing their welfare.
