Gauteng Transport MEC condemns extortion in taxi industry

Gauteng's Roads and Transport MEC, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, has strongly condemned incidents of extortion within the taxi industry. Diale-Tlabela maintains that there is no room for criminal activity within the province's public transport system. The issue has been brought to the attention of the Provincial Taxi Task Team. The MEC's spokesperson, Lesiba Mpya, has issued a warning that the department will revoke the operating licenses of anyone found to be involved in criminal activities.

Diale-Tlabela has emphasized that the department will pursue all legal avenues available to revoke an operator's license if unlawful conduct is involved. The taxi industry is urged to resolve disputes and disagreements through established industry structures and lawful processes, with intimidation and coercion not tolerated in the industry.
