Gachagua alleges MP Gitonga Mukunji faces arrest over Embu clashes

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire of targeting MP Gitonga Mukunji for arrest following violent clashes at a political event in Embu. Gachagua claims that hundreds of police officers were deployed around Mukunji's home with the intention of arresting him.

Kindiki allegedly sent Mukunji a threatening WhatsApp message following the incident. Gachagua asserts that the government is attempting to portray Mukunji as the organizer of groups that disrupted the political meeting. He argues that the clashes were caused by the exclusion of thousands of residents from Nembure Stadium. Gachagua also claims that the Kenya Kwanza administration is influencing residents in Mt Kenya East region for the 2027 General Election using money and government resources.

He warns President William Ruto against spending government resources in the region, stating that it would not guarantee political support. Gachagua has mobilized lawyers to defend Mukunji if he is arrested, even in a church setting. He asserts that the arrest of Mukunji could strengthen opposition support and boost his own political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.
