From different faiths, they went to court to marry. He was assaulted, arrested – and now acquitted

Narmadapuram district couple Saiyyad Khan and his partner sought legal marriage due to religious differences in 2025. On February 7th, they travelled to Bhopal's district court to wed under the Special Marriage Act. However, a group of lawyers assaulted Khan inside the court and subsequently arrested him on charges of forcing his partner to convert to Islam and marry him. Khan was acquitted by the Narmadapuram district court last week, despite his fiancée marrying another man locally and losing her job.
